Prepare For Camp

Weather

  • The weather at Frontier Ranch generally is great! However, temperature and climate can change quickly, so encourage your child to be prepared. In the late fall, winter and early spring, expect cold conditions and the possibility of snow. The summer and late spring provide beautiful days in the 70's-80's, but may become chilly at night. Check current weather conditions in Buena Vista for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
What To Bring
All bedding (sheets, towels, and blankets) are provided by Frontier Ranch.
  • Toiletries.  Bring basic toiletries.  However, if your child forgets something, most items can be purchased at the Frontier Store.
  • Proper Clothing.  Warm clothing will be needed at most times of the year at Frontier.  Closed-toed shoes are required from some activities.  Also, don't let your child forget their bathing suit for the pool and hot tub, open year-round!
  •  Medications.  Our medical staff or the medical staff associated with your child's group, would be more than happy to assist your child in taking their needed medications.  Please contact your child's trip leader about your child's medication regime.
  • Special Dietary Needs.  Our Food Service Team is very willing to work with your child's dietary needs.  Please contact your child's trip leader or Frontier Ranch ahead of time to communicate those needs.
  • Calling Card.  Cellular service at Frontier Ranch is not very predictable or dependable.  There are pay phones located throughout the camp that will allow collect calls or the use of calling cards.  Calling cards can also be purchased at the Frontier Store.
  • Spending Money.  The Frontier Store, The Snack Bar, and Frontier's Coffee Shop, "The Princeton Perk," will probably be open some time during your child's stay at Frontier Ranch.  Additional spending money will be needed for purchases.
  • Study Needs.  Depending on your child's group, certain study materials such as a Bible, a notebook, and a pen or pencil may be needed.  Contact your child's trip leader to find out.
  • Camera.  Colorado is beautiful.  Memories at Frontier Ranch are unforgetable.  Encourage your child to show YOU what that is all about with photographs!
Directions to Frontier Ranch
  • Frontier Ranch is located approximately 8 miles outside of Buena Vista, Colorado. Follow directions from your location to Denver or Colorado Springs, and then follow our map to camp.

Safety

Young Life and Frontier Ranch maintain the highest level of safety and standards in operation of all of our activities at camp.

All of Frontier's high-elements challenge courses (ropes course, screamer, and rappelling tower) are inspected and approved by The Association of Challenge Course Technology and by Adventure Experiences, Inc.  All elements are facilitated and supervised by our staff who have been fully trained and certified to do so, ensuring your child's comfort and safety.

Frontier's Horse and Ridge Runner Programs are also facilitated by trained and experienced staff.  Your child will surely be in good hands while at Frontier Ranch.

In the event of an unexpected accident, there is always a qualified medical professional on call to tend to your child's needs.  Also, if needed, the local hospital is only a short drive away.
