Maintenance intern
Mission/Authority The essential purpose of Young Life is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people. This is largely accomplished at Young Life camps through activities that illustrate certain aspects of Christ's life and teachings. Each activity conducted by Young Life staff in the camp environment is intended to convey a specific message about Christ to young people, in a manner that is coordinated with other activities, leading to a continual spiritual experience during the week. The duties of the maintenance intern are an integral part of the spiritual program of the camp. The intern must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern as he/she relates to campers, guests and staff. All staff members are expected to model Christian principles and the standards of Young Life at work and outside of work; staff members must represent Young Life positively and professionally within the local community. Essential Duties 1. Prompt attendance on a daily basis 2. Maintain a professional appearance as required to provide efficient service to the property (no dirty or torn clothes, collared shirts, etc) 3. Convey a sense of Christ like hospitality and service to all campers, guests, leaders, and staff. 4. Execute DIN & PM items as assigned. Check and repair items on the DIN list twice daily 5. Document all work completed and items maintained 6. Supervise and work alongside the Maintenance summer staff to ensure that tasks are being performed up to standards and in the proper priority, in a timely manner and in sync with the rest of property operation. 7. Maintain clean equipment and work areas
Other Duties 1. Be available to assist and supervise special events such as county fair or tableau. 2. Be available to rise to the unexpected needs of campers, staff, and guests that are not related to the maintenance intern position. 3. Attend all intern functions. Working Conditions
1. Must be capable of spending the entire workday standing or walking 2. Must be adaptable to all work environments – inside and out 3. Must be capable of working on projects over / above head, as well as bending, kneeling, crawling in / around attics and crawlspaces, etc 4. Capable of digging, shoveling and raking various compounds
Skills & Qualifications Required
1. Must display a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ 2. Previous summer staff experience 3. Leadership ability to supervise summer staff and work crew in projects 4. Use of basic hand tools and power tools 5. Ability to use and maintain a list to complete and track tasks 6. Ability to work well with others
