Retail intern
Mission/Authority The essential purpose of Young Life is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people. This is largely accomplished at Young Life camps through activities that illustrate certain aspects of Christ's life and teachings. Each activity conducted by Young Life staff in the camp environment is intended to convey a specific message about Christ to young people, in a manner that is coordinated with other activities, leading to a continual spiritual experience during the week.
The duties of the rec hall intern are an integral part of the spiritual program of the camp. The intern must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern as he/she relates to campers, guests and staff. All staff members are expected to model Christian principles and the standards of Young Life at work and outside of work; staff members must represent Young Life positively and professionally within the local community.
Essential Duties 1. Minister to, direct, and encourage campers, guests, volunteer leaders, and staff in a manner consistent with Christian principles, Young Life’s mission, and the spiritual program of the camp. 2. Convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern to campers, guests, leaders, and staff.
Rec Hall/Gym equipment management: 1. Check gym basketballs for inflation and wear. 2. Make sure there are inflated soccer balls & footballs in gym ball racks. 3. Check game room tables and cues, chalk, billiard balls, nets, paddles, table tennis balls, foosballs, air hockey paddles and pucks, etc. repair any damage and replace any broken items. 4. Inform guest service specialist of any equipment that is low on inventory, broken, or needs to be repaired or replaced.
Store/Snack Bar/Crafts management: 1. Communicate with summer staff about hours the store and snack bar need to be available for campers. 2. In the case of summer staff not being able to fulfill duties, fill in as much as possible. 3. Handle inventory, be aware of re-stocking or ordering needs, and handle moving snack bar inventory to snack bar storage area when it is delivered. 4. Make sure registers are property stocked with change. 5. Make sure crafts summer staff are aware of hours they need to work, and ensure that craft materials are prepared. 6. Be prepared to lead summer staff.
Other Duties 1. Be available to assist the host with special events such as water regatta, carnival and tableau. 2. Be able to rise to the unexpected needs of campers, staff, and guests that are not related to the waterfront. 3. Attend all intern devotions. Qualifications 1. Must display a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. 2. Acceptance of and compliance with Young Life's statements of faith and mission purpose statement, and Young Life's policies and principles. 3. Previous Young Life summer staff experience. 4. Must be self-motivated, able to work and lead others with minimal supervision and posses a willingness to learn and accept direction from property staff and assigned team.
