Waterfront intern

Mission/Authority
The essential purpose of Young Life is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people. This is largely accomplished at Young Life camps through activities that illustrate certain aspects of Christ’s life and teachings. Each activity conducted by Young Life staff in the camp environment is intended to convey a specific message about Christ to young people, in a manner that is coordinated with other activities, leading to a continual spiritual experience during the week.

The duties of the waterfront intern are an integral part of the spiritual program of the camp. The intern must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern as he or she relates to campers, guests and staff. All staff members are expected to model Christian principles and the standards of Young Life at work and outside of work; staff members must represent Young Life positively and professionally within the local community.
This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of waterfront activities by training and supervising Summer Staff, inspecting equipment, and monitoring operations.

Essential Duties
1. Minister to, direct, and encourage campers, guests, volunteer leaders, and staff in a manner consistent with Christian principles, Young Life’s mission, and the spiritual program of the camp.
2. Convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern to campers, guests, leaders, and staff.
3. Work with other staff and camp leadership to help integrate the camp program into the waterfront activity.
4. Train and supervise summer staff to safely operate waterfront activities and carry out emergency procedures as prescribed by the property staff.
5. Complete comprehensive training for operation and maintenance of all related activities by a Young Life certified trainer/operator. 
6. Carry out duties assigned in the Waterfront Manual.
7. Be willing and able to provide lifeguards and other selected Summer Staff with a devotion time throughout the week.
8. Schedule and supervise lifeguards, supervise and maintain all waterfront areas including all lake activities.
9. Operate and maintain the pool area.
10. Operation and supervision of jet boats, which includes driving and daily maintenance.
11. Operate and maintain the pool area on a daily basis, i.e. operate the pump house, water balance, and chemicals.
12. Train staff to perform communication procedures during emergency situations, such as during injury, inclement weather, rescue, or with defective equipment, and a physically or emotionally challenged guest.
13. Lift 50 lbs. waist high and work in exposure of sun/rain/heat for extended periods of time.
14. Schedule and supervise daily open and cleanup and maintenance of areas and equipment assigned to the waterfront, including beach, pool, spa, blob tower, lake, volleyball courts, etc.
Other Duties
1 .Be available to assist and supervise special events such as Water Regatta and other program events.
2. Be able to rise to the unexpected needs of campers, staff, and guests that are not related to the waterfront.
3. Attend all intern functions.

Qualifications
1. Must display a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Acceptance of and compliance with Young life's statements of faith and mission purpose statement, and Young Life's policies and principles.
3. Previous waterfront experience, such as Young Life Summer Staff or equivalent.
4. Must be self-motivated, able to work and lead others with minimal supervision and posses a willingness to learn and accept direction from Property Staff and Assigned Team.
5. Complete certification for Red Cross (or similar) Lifeguard training to include basic first aid and CPR training in accordance with local regulations.
6. Must be at least 20 years old by May.
