One of the specific areas in desperate need of improvement surrounds our current inability to serve well the volunteers who serve campers at Malibu. Annually, during each of the four summer sessions, 85 high school and college-age students fill vital volunteer roles on our work crews and summer staff. They work in the harbor, kitchen, dining room, outdoor crews and many other roles. The accommodations for this hard working group have been woefully inadequate for many years, with sleeping quarters well over capacity and not in a condition consistent with Young Life standards.

The solution is to provide an 8,500 square-foot work staff housing building that will accommodate the entire work crew along with the men’s summer staff. This will provide an environment for quality rest during their hectic four weeks of serving up to 300 high school campers per week.

Completion of both the work staff and assigned staff buildings will also free vital space to add needed square footage to camper dorms during that phase of renovations.
