Summer Leader 101

So you're going to be a leader at Saranac this summer? We've compiled a list of things you need to know as a leader here.
Even if you have been a leader at another Young Life camp before, it's a good idea to take a look at this page to get a handle on the uniqueness of camping at Saranac Village.

What to do?

While you're at Saranac you can parasail, wakeboard, do the ropes course, tube and much much more. If you're looking for something a little more "low-key," you can visit our game room, the outpost, or just hang out in the hammocks on the beach. Be sure to check out our camp map so you have an idea of the camp's layout before you get here.

Cabin Rides

There will be an opportunity for you to take your cabin on different rides during your week at Saranac. Because of the interest in these rides, the head leaders will schedule a time for your cabin to participate in them. Your cabin will automatically be set up for parasailing, ropes course and tubing. Three additional rides, cabin ski, canoe breakfast and the cabin hike are optional and explained below.  If you are interested in cabin ski or canoe breakfast, please let the head leaders know at your first leader's meeting.
  • Cabin Ski - A chance for you to reserve time for your cabin to wakeboard or water ski together in addition to the open ski opportunities throughout free time.
  • Canoe Breakfast - Your cabin takes an early morning canoe ride to an off-site location where a hot breakfast complete with eggs, French toast, hash browns, cereal and hot chocolate awaits you.
  • Cabin Hike - You and up to 9 campers in your cabin take the afternoon and hike up beautiful Amersand Mt. with a summer staff guide.

What's the weather like?

Generally summer weather at Saranac Village consists of warm 80 degree afternoons and cool 50 degree evenings, but be sure to get the most up to date weather forecast before your trip.
