Housekeeping/Guest Services
(4 days Housekeeping 1 day Guest Services)
The HK/GS intern position is very fluid and changes with the seasons. In the busy school season, these interns are the first to assist in Guest Services (Zip Line, Rock Wall, Pamper Pole/Ropes Course, and Hosting) which leads to variable schedule for the day. In the off season, these interns are responsible for heading up Housekeeping task like maintaining the cleanliness of camp, laundry, and other random projects. Skills required would be: attention to detail, love working with a small group of all women, able to find joy in all circumstances, and need for variety in serving in the forefront and in the behind the scenes. These interns typically fill the summer Guest Services or Housekeeping Positions.
Kitchen/Housekeeping
(2 days Kitchen, 3 days Housekeeping)
The kitchen intern will spend three days in housekeeping and two days in the kitchen. You will be responsible for helping the kitchen staff prepare and cook meals for incoming groups, as well as oversee the weekend volunteer workgroups. The bulk of your job will be to supervise and delegate, balancing the big picture as well as the small details. You will also help with the maintenance and cleaning of equipment, creation and implementation of health and safety practices, and recipe and inventory management. The kitchen at the Washington Family Ranch is a fun and rewarding place to work, with plenty of close fellowship, challenge and variety.
Sarsaparilla (Snack Bar)/Housekeeping
(1 1/2 days Sarsaparilla, 3 1/2 days Housekeeping)
The Sarsaparilla Intern is responsible for the oversight of the day to day operation of this facility. This will involve supervising 3 - 4 interns and property staff while the "Sassy" is open in the off season and 5 - 6 Summer Staff during the summer months. During the off season this intern typically works 1 day in the Sassy, 1/2 day doing vending and 3 1/2 days in housekeeping per week. In the summer, this person works 6 days per week in the Sassy.
The responsibilities of the Sassy Intern include ordering product, handling cash deposits, maintenance of equipment, cleaning and compliance with health regulations.
Mercantile (Store) Intern
(2 days Mercantile, 3 days Housekeeping)
The Store intern reports directly to store supervisor and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Washington Family Ranch Mercantile 2 days each week. Responsibilities include checking in new stock, operate cash register during openings, handle cash and deposits, restock and cleaning of store, maintain displays, and other administrative duties related to store operation. The remainder of the week is spent in housekeeping maintaining the cleanliness of camp, laundry, and other assigned projects.
Maintenance/Guest Services
(3 days Maintenance, 1 day Guest Services, 1 day Housekeeping)
Maintenance Interns assist the Site & Facilities staff at Wildhorse in general construction, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, DIN lists (Do It Now), and routine maintenance. Each intern is assigned to a skilled tradesman on property staff in a one-on-one environment most of the time. When groups are in, the maintenance interns assist the Guest Services staff on our program items, like the rock wall, sports center, ropes course, zip line, and snack bar. Maintenance Interns will also join the housekeeping team when groups leave to prepare the camp for the next group. As a maintenance intern, opportunities exist to work with volunteers at any time.
Landscape/Guest Services
(see description for days per week)
Landscape interns will join the landscape team in landscape maintenance and construction throughout the Washington Family Ranch. Landscape maintenance includes mowing, edging, weeding, watering, irrigation repairs, etc. Landscape interns will have the opportunity to work with volunteers during various work weekends . On weekends when the camp number is above 300 (about half of the time), they will assist the Guest Services staff on our program items, like the rock wall, sports center, ropes course, zip line, and snack bar. During these larger weekends, they will also assist in Housekeeping 1 day.
