My New Life in Christ

My New Life in Christ
By Beth Wilfong
Sophomore, Ambridge Area High School

As I entered my sophomore year, my life seemed pretty decent.  Family, friends, and school were all going fairly well.  I wasn’t the worst kid in the world but I definitely wasn’t the best kid either.  I always seemed pretty happy but I don’t think I was ever as happy as possible. Sometimes it was really hard for me to do things on my own and make the right choices.
I think I always knew right from wrong because my parents and teachers taught me their views of “being good”.  But, my friends and all the temptations made it hard to make good choices.

One Friday night my friend Sandra called me and told me she was having a Young Life thing at her house and she wanted me to come.  When I asked her what is was she told me, “don’t worry it is nothing boring.”
So, because Sandra was my best friend,  I agreed to be there.  That Monday night was the start of the rest of my life.  Sandra was right.  It wasn’t boring.  We sang, played games and chatted with friends.  At the end of club, it got even better.  We talked about Christ- a name that wasn’t very familiar to me.
That night at Club I also heard about winter weekend and, because my other friend Ashley, invited me, I decided to go.  I also wanted to learn more about the name Jesus Christ.
That was the greatest weekend ever.  We played sports, sang songs, and talked about Christ.  We had a 20 minute quiet time that weekend.  I thought about a lot in those 20 minutes and that’s the instant that I realized I was ready to give my heart, soul and life to Christ.

My life now as a Chirstian is much better than it was before.  All of the choices that were very difficult before are now easier to make.  When I come across hard choices it is easrier to make the right decisions because I look at them in a completely different way.  As a Christian,   instead of just asking myself if something is right, I ask myself, “would Jesus approve of this or would Christ like me doing these things?” These answers lead me in a much better direction than my own decisions would. I also treat myself and other much better now.
Now, my time is given to Christ instead of the things I used to do.  I am now going to Young Life stuff, Church, and a Bible study with a Young Life leader.  These are priorities.
I also have been talking to my friends about Christ because I want them to experience the fullness of life with Christ…

“The thief comes to kill and steal and destroy.  I have come that you might have life and have it to the full”  John 10.10
