What is Committee?

Each local area has a committee of adults who believe in the mission of Young Life: to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their faith. You'll find adults from all different backgrounds, careers and denominations, including lots of moms and dads who care about kids.

Committee members partner with the local ministry in a variety of ways, some of which include praying for the local area, participating in fund-raising events and providing administrative help to the local staff.

Western Loudoun Young Life Committee

Craig & Aledra Hollenbach    Craig and Aledra have lived in Hamilton for over twenty years. Craig grew up in Pennsylvania and works for Northrup Grumman as a software process engineer. Aledra grew up in Texas and splits her time between teaching art to homeschoolers and her thriving painting hobby (canvases, not houses). Shortly after they got married, they left careers as schoolteachers to serve God with Campus Crusade in Fairfax for a couple years. The Hollenbachs have two grown children: Haley, a graphic artist in Richmond; and Nathan, a part time teacher and cross country coach at LVHS. Craig is currently committee chair for Western Loudoun YL, and Aledra does a lot of everything for YL.

David & Jeanne Gentry    David and Jeanne live in Philomont, moving from Dallas to Loudoun in 1999 (and prior to that, Marietta, GA). David is Senior VP at Lee Technologies in Fairfax. In his free time he enjoys golf, and in the fall seems to have an addiction to University of Georgia football (go Bulldogs). Jeanne is a contract employee working as an events manager for Sprint. As a graduate of Auburn University (go Tigers), her job is to keep David (go Bulldogs) humble. The Gentrys have six children, with the two youngest at LVHS and Blue Ridge Middle School.

Leigh Cowper   Leigh has lived in Leesburg since 1981. She has been an elementary special education teacher for 27 years and currently is a special education teaching consultant for an elementary school in Leesburg. Leigh grew up in Connecticut and graduated from Keene State University in New Hampshire. She was very involved with Young Life in Loudoun as a volunteer leader for three years and continues her commitment to YL by serving on committee since 2004.

Debbie Kalriess  Debbie is a native Washingtonian, growing up in Prince George's County, as well as above her grandfather's corner market in downtown D.C., and later on in Montgomery County. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, spent a few years exploring college life, and eventually married Ted, her husband of 26 years. Debbie has four children, with the youngest two at Heritage and Harper Park. The beach is where Debbie wishes she could spend all her time. She enjoys photography and scrapbooking, vacations with the family, and being a leader with WyldLife.

Dave and Cindy Foulke    Dave and Cindy have lived in Leesburg since 2001.  Cindy is a native Northern Virginian and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax County.  Dave grew up in an Air Force family and has lived all over the world. Dave was also a youth leader while in college. He is a Principal Systems Security Engineer with Argotek, Inc. Cindy attended Young Life clubs and camps while in high school, and was a volunteer leader for a year in college.  She works part time for Potomac Hills Presbyterian Church. The Foulkes have four children, ages 7 to 14, the oldest a freshman at Heritage High School in Leesburg.  In addition to being on committee, Dave & Cindy host the Heritage Ambassador group, and have enjoyed getting to know other parents whose students attend Heritage.

Terrie Combs   Terrie lives in Round Hill with her husband Steve and their two children. She serves as treasurer of the PTO at Blue Ridge Middle School and volunteers with the middle school youth group at St. Andrew Presbysterian Church. Terrie grew up in Austin Texas and attended the University of Texas. She serves on YL committee because "Young Life has had a very positive effect on my son's life and the life of his friends". She loves Mexican food and enjoys ringing hand bells at church.

Beth deButts   Beth lives in Leesburg with her husband Grafton and is on fulltime staff with Young Life. Beth was born in Illinois, lived in Indiana, then moved to Virginia in 1993. She attended Middle Tennessee State University for two years on a soccer scholarship, then finished her Psychology degree (minor in Music) at JMU. Beth has been leading YL since 2001. She is an Indianapolis Colts fan, loves soccer, is an accomplished singer, and enjoys coffee and store bought cake. She is also a Mary Kay consultant.

An Essential Foundation

Committee is the foundation for Young Life in a local area. Oftentimes, new Young Life clubs start because of the interest and awareness created by the committee. We also welcome the involvement of adult Young Life alumni, whose enthusiasm about their Young Life experiences is valuable to a committee.

In Western Loudoun we have two different levels of involvement for adults. First, there is the Western Loudoun Young Life Committee, which fits the description above.  The committee meets once per month with all of the Young Life staff in the County. During these meetings they hear reports from the staff about how ministry is going in the area. The committee also spends some time on events such as the Young Life Golf Marathon or the Annual Young Life Banquet. Beyond these meetings, committee members also assist the staff with strategic planning, budgeting and other administrative tasks.

The second tier of involvement is what we call Ambassador Groups. We currently have an active group formed for the Heritage community, are strengthening the Loudoun Valley group, and praying for the formation of an Ambassador Group for Loudoun County High School. Focused primarily on the ministry in their own community, Ambassador Groups meet once per month with their local Young Life staff and spend time praying for the ministry, planning out practical ways to support local events with kids, and orchestrating local community involvement in County-wide events planned by the Young Life Committee. Each Ambassador Group will have at least one member that represents them on the Western Loudoun Young Life Committee.

How Do I Get Involved?

We are always looking for adults in the community who value the work we do with kids and are willing to invest some of their own time and energy to help us in this mission. If you are interested in joining the Western Loudoun Young Life Committe or any of the community Ambassador Groups, please contact:
