The Log Cabin
MORE ABOUT THE CABIN
The Forest Hill Civic Club's Log Cabin, located at 9286 Poplar Ave, has had quite a history. It began in the 1930's as the Forest Hill Dairy hunting and fishing lodge, and then was donated to the Forest Hill Civic Club. It has been used as a community center, a VFW, a stained glass window shop, and has seen a wild party or two over the years (or so we are told.) Thousands of people drive down Poplar and pass by it every day wondering what its like on the inside, what is it being used for, and what's it's story? If you know more of the history of the cabin or have any old pictures you could share with us, call Brad at 820-0760.
Today, Young Life Memphis Metro rents the cabin from the Forest Hill Civic Club and has continued to restore it. The Germantown and Houston Young Life clubs meet there, led by an outstanding group of volunteer and staff leaders. The ECS Young Life club meets there on Sunday nights after church. In the mid nineties the Forest Hill Community Church and Germantown Baptist Church's youth groups met there occasionally as did Grace Evangelical singles ministry, called Crossroads. The cabin has also hosted the Germantown area's Fund Raining Dinner with Allen Levi and a number of other special events!
The future of this special little spot in history is uncertain. It could quickly become a victim of the rezoning of the north side of Poplar, but in the meantime, it's a wonderful setting for Young Life, and we'll enjoy it for the next six months or sixty years, who knows!
For those of you have ever been to Young Life's Colorado Camps, it is as close to the feel of a room at Silver Cliff, Frontier Ranch or Crooked Creek Ranch as you can imagine!
All of the repairs and additions have been donated and the Young Life committee, leaders and kids themselves have worked hard to restore the Log Cabin.
Young Life is very appreciative of The Forest Hill Civic Club members in allowing us to rent the cabin. We absolutely love it!
