The center is named for Jay Holcomb.  Jay was a young man who lived for 13 years with spinal bifida.  When Jay died some dear friends made an anonymous gift of $150,000 in his memory to begin a fund which would eventually lead to a $1,000,000 investment in the lives of Memphis inner-city kids.  The center now provides a quality facility for Club, Campaigners, tutoring, life skills lessons, leadership/volunteer training.  Simply put  -  it is a great place to build relationships.

 

Jay is a great example of a kid that had a lot to overcome and overcame it boldly.  The building itself personifies Jay and many of the teenagers in the city of Memphis.  From the outside the JHUC, much like Jay, is'nt all that appealing.  One could drive right by and not have even notice anything different.  But for the person who will take the time to stop by and see what is happening on the inside, he or she will find one of the most beautiful treasures in the city of Memphis.

 

We are proud that our center is named after such a treasure as Jay Holcomb.  Our goal is to allow the JHUC to become a place to find many treasures in the lives of the teenagers who come to Young Life from the city of Memphis.
