What is the Charitable Tax Credit?
It is a tax credit that goes directly to an organization that is federally exempt and is serving Arizona residents who are considered low income households.
Do I need to itemize deductions In order to qualify for the credit?
Yes. You must have itemized deductions and charitable contributions on the Arizona State income tax return at least once to have established a baseline amount and year. If you did this in 1996, that is your amount and year. If you did this after 1996, your baseline amount is the first year you itemized on your return.
Does the tax credit affect my state or federal taxes?
It is a tax credit on your state tax return and deduction on your federal tax return. You must be paying state taxes to qualify for this credit.
