Teachers In Mission. December 17, 2009

Are you a Mid/High School teacher? Do you have a passion for sharing Christ with kids? Do you feel like there is more to do but you just don’t know how or where to start?

We know how you feel because we carry the same burden for the sake of the kids we’re called to serve. We have a unique vision based on the knowledge and expertise naturally possessed by teachers to work with kids. Moreover, we are willing to generously share our resources coupled with our passion to define your calling and outline your mission.

Young Life identifies with Christian adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. We understand how these relationships don't happen overnight and how they take time, patience, trust and consistency.

On Thursday December 17, 2009 there will be an opportunity for you to become a “worker in the Harvest Field”. Young Life will be holding an orientation at the uptown Manhattan area to introduce Mid/High School teachers to its ministry and all the chances available for you to serve. You will be exposed to real-life testimonies and a network of faithful believers who work tirelessly to serve and witness. You will have access to compiled experiences, advanced techniques and a supporting community of more than 45 people in New York City and 20,000 people across the United States that share the same passion and pray for the same goals.

During this orientation you are going to have a real opportunity to serve. You will have the chance to sign up on site for a program that suits your set of skills.

Join us to learn more about Young Life’s ministry in New York City and how you can be a part of the wonderful work of Christ that is taking place here and now!

Please CLICK HERE to receive an official invitation and RSVP for the Teacher Life event no later than December 1, 2009.

More Than Just Math

In 1996 I left Cedar Rapids, Ia to become a middle school teacher in Baltimore, MD.  I got the surprise of my life.  I ran into to group of kids who had little to be excited about and lacked hope.  I met young men that made drugs, money, and fighting a way of life and a matter of survival.

Despite the despair it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  Through teaching world studies and coaching basketball I saw kids who had much to fear find more to smile about.  The eyes of their understanding had been opened, they started to learn and were excited about it.

Amidst the joy, success, and transformation I was still limited by my profession.  What these kids really needed was Jesus.  They needed to know that Mr. Coty loved them and more substantially that the God of the universe had a plan for their life; one that doesn't include disaster.  But because of the separation of church and state I couldn't do that.

I couldn't introduce kids to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.  Then I was introduced to the ministry of Young Life.  Young Life changed my life.  It provided access to tools I didn't know existed and to the ministry God had planned.  It helped me bypass separation of church and state, allowing me to provide opportunities to assist reconciliation to Jesus Christ.  Now, for the past 10 years, I've been working full-time for Young Life.

As a teacher with a passion to see kids meet Christ, there's no better way to give yourselves away.  You can teach more than curriculum, you can teach Christ.
