Saranac 2008 Camp Information

We are so glad that you will be attending Asian Young Life camp. We hope that your time at Saranac will be one of the best weeks of your life. Important information packets have been mailed to every person registered for our Asian Young Life trip to Saranac Village. For your convenience, everything you need to know can also be found below.

Important Documents

Saranac 2008 Scoop Sheet
This document contains important information about departure details, camp policies, and what to bring. Make sure your parents post it on your refrigerator while you are at camp.

Photo Consent Form
This form must be signed by both you and one of your parents. Please be sure to submit it with your health form.

Health Form
This very important form must be completed by your parents (or a physician) and returned to your Asian Young Life leader as soon as possible, but most definitely before July 25. Please note that your parents must provide your health insurance information, and that both you AND one of your parents must sign on the back of the form. Please also note that you do NOT have to provide proof of a physical examination from a doctor; your mom or dad may complete this information instead. All immunization information MUST be completed. Do NOT simply write "up to date." You will not be allowed to attend camp unless this health form is fully and accurately completed. Please give it your highest priority. When you have completed the form, please contact the Asian Young Life office and one of our leaders will pick it up.

Camp Information

Camp: Young Life's Saranac Village
4014 State Route 30
Saranac Lake, NY 12983
Dates: Sunday, August 10, to Saturday, August 16, 2008
Phone: (518) 891-3010

The camp office is open everyday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. If your parents wish to speak with you or to contact the camp for any reason, please have them call the camp phone number and speak with the receptionist.

If your parents call the camp after hours, they will have the opportunity to leave a message on the office answering machine. In EMERGENCY situations, your parents should listen to the recorded announcement; the message will direct them to the phone number of the on-call person assigned to handle emergencies for that particular evening. A licensed medical physician and an EMT live on the camp premises and are available 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency.

Departure Information

We will be traveling to Saranac in a 56-seat air-conditioned luxury bus provided by Campbell Tours. The bus will depart as follows:

Place: Cresskill High School
1 Lincoln Drive
Cresskill, NJ 07626
Time: Sunday morning, August 10, at 6:15 AM

Return Information

The bus will return to its original departure location on Saturday, August 10. The exact return time cannot be determined until that day, but expect the buses to return sometime between 7:00 and 9:00 PM. Parents may call the local Asian Young Life office at (201) 674-7966 after 5:00 PM on Saturday, August 10, to listen to a recording giving a more specific estimated arrival time.

Camp Policies

  • Electronic accessories (like the iPod, PSP, Gameboy, MP3 players, CD players, etc.) are NOT permitted at camp. There are no locks on cabin doors, so these things can be easily stolen, thus ruining what otherwise would have been a good week for you. We STRONGLY advise you to leave these items at home. If you do bring electronic items like these on the bus, they will be collected on arrival at camp and stored in the camp safe for the duration of the week. Of course, all items will be returned to you when we depart camp. Just be sure to mark your name on each electronic item.

  • Cell phones are NOT permitted at camp. We realize that your parents may wish to contact you on your cell phone, but please understand that the camp is remotely isolated in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, so as a result very few cell phones actually work at camp. Any cell phone brought on the bus will be collected on arrival at camp and stored in the camp safe for the duration of the week. If your parents wish to contact you, they should call the camp office at (518) 891-3010 and have you paged. If you wish to call home, it is strongly advised that you purchase a telephone calling card before you leave for camp. There are numerous pay phones at camp which you may use.

  • Absolutely no alcohol or illegal drugs are permitted. If you bring any such items to camp, your parents will be notified and required to pick you up at camp and take you home immediately.

T-Shirts

You will be given a free Asian Young Life T-shirt on the bus ride up to camp. We kindly ask you to wear your shirt on arrival to camp and during the first evening at camp.
