Frequently Asked Questions

What Is "Adult Camp"?
Young Life camps like Saranac Village are typically used exclusively by teenagers as part of Young Life's outreach ministry to young people, but once a year Young Life opens up the doors of its camps for adults to get a taste of what Young Life leaders do when they bring teenagers to camp in the summer. You'll get to do all the same things that teenagers do when they go to Young Life camp. Don't miss this opportunity to be a kid again and to have the time of your life! Last year, one of our adult couples even got ENGAGED at Saranac! Who will be next?! Get some of your friends and join us! To see pictures from last year's trip, please visit our College and Adult Camp Photo Album.

Do I Have To Be Asian To Go?
No, our camp is open to people of all races, ethnicities, and even religious beliefs. Many of the people who go with our Asian Young Life area will be from an Asian background, but many non-Asians join us as well. Furthermore, there will be many other non-Asians from other groups at the camp as well.

What Is There To Do At Camp?
A better question would be, "What is there NOT to do?" These are just some of the activities you can do at camp:

parasailing

wakeboarding

ropes course

waterskiing

sailboats

canoeing

fishing

ping pong

frisbee golf

tennis

water tubing

kayaks

hot tub

basketball

beach volleyball

waterslide

billiards

foosball

arts and crafts

soccer

Don't forget the famous Young Life food, served right to the table! Each night there will also be a Young Life club that will feature great music, laughs, and inspirational messages from the camp speaker Bill Paige. Amidst all of the activities, you'll also have time to slow down, to think about God and what's really important in life... to see things from a new (and refreshing) point of view.

What Should I Bring?
Make sure you bring the following so that you can have a blast at camp:

  • Casual summer clothes
  • Swimsuit
  • Jacket or sweater for cool evenings
  • Beach towel for hot tub and waterfront
  • Sandals/flip flops
  • 50s clothes (blue jeans and white shirts for the gentlemen, poodle skirts and head scarves for the ladies, etc.)
  • Lots of socks and underwear
  • Sunscreen
  • An adventurous spirit
  • Extra money for the snack bar and camp store (For your convenience, MasterCard and Visa are also accepted at the camp store.)
You do NOT have to bring bed linens, pillows, or a sleeping bag.

What About Housing?
Housing is dormitory-style. Men will be housed in one building and women in another. Sorry, there are no "married couples" rooms nor can we accommodate children under 18 years old.

Where Is Saranac, and How Will I Get There?
Saranac is located in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, about 20 minutes from Lake Placid, the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The camp's address is:

4014 State Route 30
Saranac Lake, NY 12983

You are responsible for your own transportation. You should try to arrive in time for dinner at 6:00 PM on Friday night, August 29. Many guests form carpool groups with their friends and leave work early on that Friday so that they can make it to camp in time for dinner. If you can not make it by 6:00 PM, that's fine too. We'll leave the light on for you! Departure from Saranac will be at 11:00 AM on Monday morning, September 1.

Driving directions can be found here.

How Do I Register?
If you wish to register using a credit card, please go to our Adult Payment Page if you are 23 years old or older or go to our Young Adult Payment Page if you are 18-22 years old.

If you wish to register using a check, please download a registration form and then send it along with a check for the appropriate amount (made out to "Asian Young Life") to the following address:

Asian Young Life
PMB 148

If paying by check, you should send the registration material in BEFORE August 23, 2008. If you wish to register after that date, please do NOT send anything to that address... Instead, please pay with a credit card or contact our office, and we'll help you get registered with a check.

I Still Have Questions
