Alumni and College Students
To our Asian Young Life alumni... Welcome back! We're glad that when you were a teenager you had the chance to experience Asian Young Life. (It was awesome, right?) Well, we want you to know that we haven't forgotten about you and that we're still here for you. Please drop us a line and let us know how you're doing.
If you are a college student with no background in Asian Young Life, we invite you to get to know us better. We maintain especially close ties to many students at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, where there is an official Young Life fellowship, known appropriately as Rutgers Young Life. We encourage our friends at Rutgers to get involved in this group.
Below are detailed descriptions of just some of the ways in which you can stay connected to Asian Young Life. If you are an Asian Young Life alumni, consider this your invitation to re-experience life the way it was meant to be... and if you are new to Asian Young Life, consider this your invitation to make up for lost time.

Young Life College
Young Life College is a program of Young Life especially for college students. If you are a college student, then you know that the familiarities of club, Campaigners, and hanging out with your leaders are no longer part of your comfortable weekly routine, and you're probably being confronted these days with things like alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, pressures to achieve and succeed, as well as questions about your faith. Young Life College maintains elements similar to traditional high school Young Life but is tailored to the unique needs of college students. There are opportunities to be with your peers to learn about God, to be involved in small groups, and to simply hang out and have fun together. To learn more and to see if your campus has a chapter, please visit the Young Life College website.
Campaigners Alumni Night
Every year on the Saturday night after Thanksgiving, we host our Campaigners Alumni Night, an event in which all of our alumni who used to be involved in Bergen County Campaigners as high school kids are invited to come back to Campaigners for a special evening of fellowship, to reconnect with their leaders and friends, and to share their personal stories with the current high school students about their triumphs and their struggles in carrying out their faith in college and beyond. If you were involved in Bergen County Campaigners when you were in high school, please join us each year for this special event!
College and Adult Camp
Every Labor Day Weekend, we take 50+ college students and adults to an incredible weekend at Young Life's Saranac Village in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Our annual College and Adult Camp gives people 18 and over a chance to be a kid again and to experience Young Life from the perspective of a teenager. All the food, folks, and fun of Young Life will be there, but this time just for you! Next year's getaway will take place on August 29-September 1, 2008. Don't miss this. Invite your friends. To see pictures from our recent trip, please visit our College and Adult Camp Photos page.
Serve on Summer Staff
Do you remember the cool speed boat driver when you went to Saranac? How about those people who worked in the camp store? And the people who prepared our meals? All of these important responsibilities were fulfilled by college students and young adults who gave up one month of their summer vacation to serve on Young Life's Summer Staff. And now that you've read this far, how about you?
That's right. Every summer, Young Life needs hundreds of college students and other young adults to work at camp so that we can give high school kids the best week of their life. Not only will you be serving teenagers, but you will also have a blast as you live and fellowship with Christians from Young Life areas all throughout the country. The hours can be long and the work tedious at times, but you will grow in your faith in ways you never imagined possible.
How To Apply:
- You should first check
availability* of openings to make sure that the camp where you would like
to work still has spots. You can apply to any of Young Life's 20+ camps. The
duration of your Summer Staff assignment will vary from camp to camp, but
in general expect your assignment to run for four weeks.
- Please go to the Online
Application* page and then follow the online instructions (You'll need
to enter the Asian Young Life area number as "NJ68" and the staff email
address as "ayl@asian.younglife.org").
- Be sure to notify
the Asian Young Life office of your intentions because we will need to
sponsor you and provide you with a letter of recommendation.
*(Mac users: Sorry, but there are known issues using most Macintosh web browsers to check availability. Please use Microsoft Internet Explorer to check availability of openings and to apply online.)
Please apply as soon after January 1 as possible. Qualified
applicants will be accepted into positions based on the order applications are
received. Good luck!
Since the year 2000, Asian Young Life has sponsored a number of individuals to serve on Summer Staff. Here's an overview of what these people did and where:

Be a Volunteer Leader
If you admire the work that your leaders did when you were in high school, then maybe you would like to do it too! We are always in need of additional volunteer leaders, so why not take the first step in learning the tricks of the trade and become an AYL leader yourself? All you need to have is a passion for Jesus Christ and a passion for kids, especially for Asian kids. We'll teach you the rest. (Oh, and if you like having fun, that would definitely be a big plus.) Your life will be richly blessed as you go about building friendships with teenagers and helping them put the puzzles of life back together.
If you attend college in central or northern New Jersey (e.g., Rutgers, NJIT, TCNJ, Princeton, etc.) or (for those of you not in college) if you currently reside in or close to Bergen or Morris counties, we'd love to have you on our team! For more information, please visit our Become a Volunteer Leader page. Just a few things to keep in mind: If you decide that you would like to be an AYL leader, you must be at least 19-years old and have completed at least one year of college before you can officially start working with kids. (If you are a college freshman, you are invited to join us at leaders meetings so that you can begin learning the philosophy of what we do.)
Make a Financial Donation
We know what you're thinking... "Are they kidding?!" We realize that college students don't have much disposable income, but one day you probably will. All we're asking is that when you start making money, you'd think about supporting us. We need financial donations to do all the stuff we do, and we figure that our alumni should probably be our biggest fans. Besides, you'll be helping current high school kids to experience what you did. That alone should be enough of a motivator. If you'd like to help out in this way, please visit our Donors page. Thanks.
Other Ways to Stay Connected
Perhaps you do not have the time to commit right now to being a volunteer leader, but you want to help out in some other way. That's great! We can definitely still use you! Maybe you can play guitar for us at club. Perhaps you could serve as a cabin leader for a week at camp. Or possibly you can drive kids to and from Campaigners meetings. Whatever gifts you can bring to the table, we are eager to gratefully accept. Contact us, and we'll find a place for you.

No Better Time Than the Present
One important thing to keep in mind... If you have a desire to be reinvolved in Asian Young Life, the best time is now when you still have the potential to have the greatest impact. Consider what Dave Roy, a former Young Life
area director and skating coach for the NHL Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, had to say about this:
"Most people spend from age 20 through 50 working
24/7 at some occupation hoping to achieve financial security, acquire
all the toys, and — ultimately — to become successful. By the time
they reach 50, they realize there is no security in life, that the
toys and success only bring a shallow sense of fulfillment. Then they
spend the rest of their years trying to lead lives of significance,
using what time and good health they have left to do something
meaningful, to have an impact.
"As a young person, if you love teenagers and believe God has
called you to serve in the Young Life mission, you have the
opportunity to live an entire life of significance. After spending
years as a trial lawyer and now as a skating coach with an NHL team,
the years of my life that hold the greatest meaning and significance
are those years that my wife and I spent as leaders and area
directors in Young Life."
Think about it. If you love what we do in Asian Young Life, then why not join us now? You'll be glad that you did.
