Jason was fortunate enough to grow up in Columbia.  His wife Crystal is also from the Columbia area (Chapin).  Although Jason went to Ben Lippen High School, he was involved with Young Life in Chapin as a result of his relationship with Crystal (they met when they were 14).  Following his graduation from Ben Lippen he began a 4 year tenure at The Citadel.  Through some pretty extraordinary circumstances, he was able to be a part of the team that started Young Life in Charleston.  He was also able to be an integral part of the religious life on The Citadel campus while serving as the Regimental Religious Officer.  Upon graduation, he and Crystal were married.  Soon after that, they moved to Louisville, Kentucky where Jason attained a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary there.  Immediately after leaving seminary, he begin his service at Young Life's Southwind camp.  He served as the Administrative Manager for 2 1/2 years.  It was there in Ocala, Florida that Ellie was born.  Jason also completed his Master of Business Administration degree during his tenure in Florida.  In the fall of 2005 he and Crystal came home to Columbia to be a part of the Young Life team here.  A lot has happened since arriving in Columbia.  Most notably though is the birth of Reese Ezekiel Blackwell on April 8th, 2006.
