What is Committee?

Each local area has a committee of adults who believes in the mission of Young Life: to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their faith. You'll find adults from all different backgrounds, careers and churches, including lots of moms and dads who care about kids.

The committee, comprised of parents, Young Life alumni and civic leaders, provides a foundation of financial, administrative and moral support for the local Young Life team.

Ask your area staff person for a local list, and feel free to call these folks with your questions at any time.

Latin America Amigos

We have begun a new chapter of committee by creating a concept of Amigos!  Amigo is the Spanish word for friend.  I have chosen this word because it powerfully describes what we need with Young Life in Latin America.  Here are a few definitions and descriptions of friend and friendship:

• Mutual knowledge, esteem, understanding and affection
• A friend will engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship
• A friend desires what is best for you
• Honesty; perhaps in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth

Amigos of Young Life Latin America are a group of friends (as described above in all of its fullness) gathered together with the common purpose and vision of giving every teenager in Latin America a chance to hear about Jesus Christ.

What Will the Amigos Do?

Along with the Regional Director for Latin America, own the grand vision described above.  There are 25 countries in the current Latin America region.  Thinking big and dreaming bigger about how we can raise up and empower more nationals to reach lost teenagers in those 25 countries.

This will entail:
• Joining together to pray with great faith and trust
• How and where will we get the fuel (both financial and people) to move forward?
• Ongoing assessment of where we currently are and where we believe the Lord is leading us in the next five, ten, twenty five years!
• Willing to engage your minds, thoughts, ideas and resources

We will meet via conference call about every six weeks and will have one Amigos weekend together during the year.  We will also like for each member to make a regional visit once every three years.
