Guatemala Young Life
Young Life in Guatemala has been on a journey crafted by the Lord. In January 2003, Brady Greene, received a phone call inviting him to Guatemala. After discussion with the Latin American Senior Regional Director, Joe Walters, Brady decided to take this trip and meet with several contacts overseas. Following this trip, discussion of a ministry plan began, and in April of 2003, the Greene's and another American family moved to Guatemala City to start the work of Young Life. Recently there have been several nationals who have joined the staff of Young Life.
Their work began in Colonia Anexo Aguilar; the part of town where people work as garbage collectors, truck drivers, or scavenge the local dumpster. Some of the teenagers are enrolled in school, but most do not. Drugs, illegitimacy, violence, abuse, lack of healthcare, and lack of education are some of the lifelong issues that teenagers are forced to deal with as they live in Guatemala. The second part of their ministry is focused on Colegio Americano, which is one of the premier schools in the country.
Brady is now the leader of the team in Guatemala. He and his wife, Cindy, began their Young Life career in Knoxville, TN as volunteers before coming onto staff in February 2002. They have three sons: Parker, John, and Guille. |
