Parents and Community

Even though Young Life is especially for kids, parents and other adults in the community are important to Young Life. Adults can support Young Life in a variety of ways — by becoming a volunteer leader or committee member, by attending a Young Life fund-raising event, by hosting Young Life or by simply telling others in the community about Young Life and its commitment to kids.

Keeping Kids Safe

An important part of our committment to kids is how we keep kids safe. Our staff and volunteer leaders know they are responsible for modeling lives of hope and integrity.Young Life's Human Resources department has developed missionwide policies and procedures to ensure that kids are protected when they are with Young Life staff and/or leaders as well as when kids are part of Young Life'sponsored activities.

Family News

Young Life does not only want to get to know teenagers, but their whole family. We are commited to encouraging and strengthening families.

Here is what books the Young Life Marin staff is reading to learn how to serve you and your family better:

"Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff
This gripping and heart breaking memior of a fathers struggle to save his son from meth addiction will make you think twice about ever thinking, "My child would never become a drug addict." Sheff goes into the science behind addiction, explains how different drugs affect teens and adults...all the while walking us through the terrible journey his family went on together as they clung to hope. Sheff lives in West Marin.

"Revolution in the Bleachers" by Megan McMahon
Written by a Bay Area mom (she lives in Oakland) McMahon takes a look at the youth sports movement, weighing the costs and benefits. Tired of living a life ruled by club volleyball and soccer schedules McMahon examines how to encourage kids to be active, without over scheduling them. A must read for any parent feeling the peer pressure to sign their child up for a sport(or several sports) every season.
