Making a Difference to Kids

Young Life is active in Marysville and Arlington high school.  Young Life is making a difference in kids' lives. Here's an example of how Young Life is reaching kids: John regularly attends basketball practice at the high school where he is a Young Life leader. At first, John did not know the young men on the basketball team, but after weeks of watching practice he began to get to know who they were and exchanged a few short conversations with some of the players. One day, one of the players approached John. "You come to watch us practice a lot don't you?" the young man asked John. "Yes, I do," John said. "That's cool," the young man said. "No one does that."

As Young Life leaders we spend countless hours getting to know kids in our community.  And we do this by simply going to where the kids are.  We believe that you have to earn the right to be heard.  The foundation of our mission is building life long relationships with kids in our community and through those relationships we are able to share the gospel with them.

A Committee Member's Visit to Club

Recently I had the opportunity to do something I hadn't done for quite a while; I attended a Young Life Club. It was an All Area Club, so there were quite a few students there from various schools. Apart from a few piercings and all the texting going on, it was pretty much just like the clubs I attended many years ago while I was in high school. There were songs, games, skits and a message.  Another thing that was just the way I remember was the leaders.

They were fun, interactive, welcoming, interested and caring. In other words, they were living out the Gospel in front of these high school students. It brought to mind what a key role the leaders play in the lives of the students because they are often times the only contact a student might have with Christ. All that our leaders do is appreciated because even if the fruit of their labors isn't visible, they are planting seeds that will grow in God's timing.
