Kapwa, the Filipino group of Inter-Varisty SFSU

This has been a great week in Daly City YL.  I started the week by speaking at Kapwa, the Filipino group of InterVarsity at SF State University.  My time with the Filipino students there was wonderful.  The students heading up this ministry have expressed interest in partnering ministries as we already know similar kids in the community.

I am praying for Kapwa to be a place where we might find some YL leaders for the area.  I spoke on the theology of Filipino Potlucks which I'm excited to develop a lot more.

I also met with Pastor Woo of Hope Lutheran church in Daly City.  Pastor Woo came to Christ through YL and has been hoping to partner with Young Life.  They are preparing to hire a new youth pastor.  Pastor Woo is open to hiring someone who can do both Young Life and church roles.  They also run a Chinese school every Saturday where he has welcomed us to come and meet the more than 200 students that come to learn Chinese every Saturday.  We are hoping that they can find a space for me to possibly office out of the church as it is ideally located in the middle of Daly City and just down the hill from Westmoor HS.

Please pray that we can hire the right person for this church partnership.

Making a Difference to Kids

Today I partnered with the Christian club at Westmoor HS to throw a big outreach event.  It was held on campus right after school.  Aside from the students there were teachers, youth pastors, campus security and the Principal present!  We played games, had a raffle, had some rappers perform, a skit, then I gave the talk and invited kids to the Banquet of a lifetime.  I played off of the Debuts (Filipino style cotillions) and Quinceneras popular with the students at Westmoor.  The idea was that everyone is invited to the Banquet, but it's up to us how we want to RSVP.  Each  of the 85 kids or so walked out with a physical invitation to a restored relationship with Jesus Christ.  Then of course, since the theme was the Banquet, we served Filipino dishes of palabok, pancit and lumpia.

The theme lately has been partnerships and I am excited to see how God brings us alongside the churches and ministries in Daly City as we seek to reach kids.Young Life is active in various high schools and middle schools in the area. Young Life is making a difference in kids' lives. Here's an example of how Young Life is reaching kids: John regularly attends basketball practice at the high school where he is a Young Life leader.
