101 Hole Golf Marathon
January 04, 2007
Author: Whitney Kelly

Certain things are meant to be used certain ways.  You wouldn’t trim the hedges with a lawn mower.  You wouldn’t eat your dinner with a yard rake.  You wouldn’t go into battle with armed with a ping pong paddle.  And, you wouldn’t brush your teeth with a tennis shoe.  Or take golf for example...you wouldn't step up to the tee with your putter and you wouldn't putt with your 5 iron. Why are these examples so absurd?  Because in each case the item isn’t being used for its intended use.

When you play golf, you're  focused on a lot of different things...your stance, your swing, your setup...but do you ever really think about your glove?  See, a glove is made for only one thing...to be filled by a hand.  You can try to fill it with other things (golf balls, golf tees, scorecards) but nothing completely fills it like a hand.  You know, when it sits in your bag without with out a hand in it, it’s limp and lifeless...stagnant and empty.  But, when it’s filled with a hand, it fits perfectly...no gaps...no loose ends...and no gathers.  Just wiggle your fingers and watch it come alive.  Why?  Because being filled with a hand is what the glove was made for.
In Young Life, the message we want to share with teenagers is that like a glove is made to be filled with a hand, we were made to be filled by God.  A perfect fit!  Try as we might, nothing will fill us so completely, make us come so alive and allow us to be used as we were intended as being filled with Him.

For over 30 years, Young Life has shared this message with kids in our community.  Participation in this event helps insure that kids who may find life stagnant, empty and unfulfilling...get to know that the One who made them wants to come and live inside of them, like a hand in a glove.
So on May 2 at the Johnson City Country Club, we'll set out to connect golf with kids...in an overall effort to connect kids with Christ.  We're asking golfers to put their rotator cuffs on the line by playing 101 holes of golf and raising sponsorship to do it.

Interested in playing?  Call the Young Life office at (423) 928-9373.  We also have hole sponsorships available for local businesses to help us make this marathon possible.  If you're interested, let us know.
